Classroom description: Welcome to my virtual classroom :)
My dream classroom would be very organized and I have created what my ideal classroom would look like for my kindergarten class. When I think about my room I always think of what the needs of my students will be and how can I provide those needs. When thinking about my classroom I think about how I can make my students feel home and comfortable and a fun learning environment. I want my room to be their safe place and home away from home. When deciding how I wanted to paint my room I wanted to do warm and safe colors to create that safe environment for my students. I picked the color blue because it can stimulate students learning and I added four windows in the back because having natural sunlight can help provide a healthy place for learning.
When you walk into my room you will see my student's cubbies on the right-hand side so that as soon as they get into my room they can set their belonging aside. On the left-hand side, there will be a mailbox where I will set aside important information for students to take home to their parents. This makes it easy for parents and they can leave me notes. Next thing you will see is the desks I think it's important for students to learn to work together and cooperative learning will do that. Having them in small groups different levels of ability, use a variety of learning activities to improve their understanding of a subject. Each member of a team is responsible not only for learning what is taught but also for helping teammates learn, thus creating an atmosphere of achievement. You will notice that each table has a stool which can help students who might not learn as much sitting in the same chair every day. I will encourage students to sit in something more comfortable so that they sit in different ways to help them learn better.
I have different centers around the room but as you walk in you will notice I have a dress up/playhouse area. I think it's important for children to take on different roles and an imagination that they can be anything they set their minds too. I have an art center behind that and I believe it's important for students to be creative and artistic. In the middle of the room, you will notice the rug where we will have all of our morning huddles. I have a whiteboard to go over the days of the week, months, letter, and numbers. I have my desk in the corner to overlook each center and I have a writing center right next to my desk so that I can assist a student when they need help. Along the rest of the side, I have my reading area where they can sit in different places. They can even sit in a beanbag to make the students comfortable where reading a good book. The walls will be decorated with students work. We ill have a word wall as well as bulletin boards and anchor charts.
